Crazy crosswind landing from a JAL 747 in 1998. It doesn’t look to be a protocol landing, the POH would need to be referenced to confirm. It certianly can’t be good on the gear, I don’t believe a 747’s gear can articulate like a B52’s
Here is a comment from a pilot that has landed at that airport: “As someone who has landed a 747 at Kai Tak airport many times, this guy did everything wrong. He was late in to the turn, over corrected for wind and should have applied TOGA power as soon as his heading came close to 130. He would’ve know he was in [trouble] because Kai Tak along with Kathmandu airport required a specialist permit as part of a license to be authorised to fly this approach. He should stick to straight in ILS approaches and leave the checkerboards alone.”
