More on the Topic of Professional Language and Maximizing Your Public Brand

Phil:

We’ll have to agree to disagree on some of the “splitting hair” points. I agree Gary is authentic, and I don’t think he’s always that foul-mouthed, and he’s proved that he doesn’t need to swear to be effective or get his point across in WLTV.

Part of the “rub” is when someone else is going to pay you to do something they tend to write[some of] the rules. We’ve been going back and forth regarding the “monetization” of non-wine business talks. In the business speaking world the client controls that; now if this is a seminar (motivational or business) that Gary himself is putting on and people are paying to attend, etc. then he can write his own rules and do as he pleases.

Again what I’m talking about is he is hurting his ability for companies to bring him in as an outside speaker, that’s where they do have a say in the professionalism of the message and would expect the language to match.

One doesn’t need to swear to be passionate and enthusiastic about what message they intend to convey. At the end of the day, only GV can make the decision when it comes to following his dreams.
